Protect the Bone. Preserve Your Future Smile.
The moment a tooth comes out, your jawbone starts to shrink — often losing close to half its width within the first year. A socket preservation graft, placed the same day as your extraction, protects that foundation so every option stays open: a dental implant, a bridge, or simply a fuller, healthier smile line.

Protect the Bone. Preserve Your Future Smile.
Your jawbone starts shrinking the moment a tooth comes out. A same-day bone graft protects the foundation — and keeps every option open.

A Simple Graft That Protects a Lot of Future Options
When a tooth is removed, the socket that held its root doesn't just sit empty — it begins to collapse. Socket preservation is a bone graft placed directly into that socket, the same day as your extraction. We fill the space with graft material, cover it with a protective collagen membrane, and let your body do the rest — slowly rebuilding bone over the following months so the ridge holds its shape, width, and height.
It's a small step at the time of extraction that keeps a much bigger door open: a well-supported, beautifully restored dental implant later, without needing a second, more invasive bone-building surgery to catch up.
Real patient, real case, treated in our office — we never use stock or AI-enhanced clinical images. Ever.
Bone Loss Happens Fast — and Quietly
Most patients never notice the ridge shrinking. But by the time you're ready to talk about an implant, the foundation may already be compromised.
Rapid, Early Shrinkage
The jawbone can lose up to half its width within the first year after extraction — with most of that loss in just the first few months.
Protects Facial Structure
Your jawbone supports your lips, cheeks, and the lower third of your face. Losing it early can subtly age your smile and profile over time.
Keeps Implants Simple
Enough bone volume is what makes a future implant predictable and beautifully restored — often without a separate, more invasive bone-building procedure later.
A Whole-Body Approach
We look at healing, nutrition, and your overall health history holistically — not just the socket — because your mouth doesn't exist apart from the rest of you.
of jaw ridge width can be lost within the first year after a tooth is removed if the socket is left to heal on its own — most of it within the first three months. Socket preservation is designed to slow that process and protect your options.

Your Socket Preservation Journey
One appointment starts it. Here's exactly what happens next.
Extraction + Same-Day Graft
We remove the tooth as gently as possible — patients often tell us they didn't feel a thing — then place the graft and protective membrane in that same appointment. One visit, no second surgery to schedule.
Healing, 8–12 Weeks
Your body slowly replaces the graft with its own new bone, holding the ridge's shape. We monitor healing along the way with digital scans and photography.
Tooth Replacement
Once healed, you're in the best possible position for what's next — most often a dental implant, placed and restored right here under the same roof.

Honest Answers — Even If You Go Elsewhere
Do I need a socket preservation bone graft after every extraction?
Not always. The biggest reason to get one is if you're considering a dental implant in that spot in the future. If you're not, it's sometimes unnecessary. We'll give you an honest recommendation based on your CBCT scan and your goals — not a blanket answer. Full guide: do I need a bone graft after an extraction? →
What is the bone graft made of?
Most often we use tiny grains of human donor bone, cleaned and processed to be safe, which your body slowly replaces with its own bone. Another option is a collagen-based plug — we use the OsteoGen® Plug, bone-forming calcium mineral held in a collagen matrix — that resorbs as new bone grows in. Both help the socket keep its shape so a future implant fits well.
How much does socket preservation cost?
Our socket preservation bone graft fee is $936, published transparently with no hidden add-ons. Extractions are quoted separately (simple: $306 · surgical: $487). Insurance often covers all or part of the cost — we accept insurance and assign benefits on your behalf, and our admin team can help you understand your specific plan.
How long until I can get an implant after a bone graft?
Typically 8–12 weeks for the graft site to heal enough for implant placement. From extraction to final crown, most full timelines run 4–7 months. More on the healing timeline → or see the full implant timeline, step by step →
Can I skip the bone graft and go straight to an implant?
Sometimes, but not always. We have advanced materials and techniques that make an "immediate implant" possible in select cases, skipping the socket preservation stage entirely. Whether that's right for you depends on the bone quality and infection status we see on your CBCT scan.
Will it hurt, and is sedation available?
Most patients tell us the procedure was far more comfortable than they expected, with some mild tenderness afterward that we'll walk you through in detail. Adult oral sedation is available if you'd like a more relaxed experience — we'll discuss options at your consultation.
